The subject Astronomy deals with the science of the universe, the celestial bodies (planets, stars, galaxies) and the outer space. The teaching of methodological and theoretical knowledge of astronomy and computer skills are central aspects. The orientation period contains the modules “Introduction into Astronomy I” and “Introduction into Astronomy II”. The bachelor programme consists of 19 compulsory modules: the mathematical and physical basics of Astronomy I and II, Introduction into Physics I, II and III, the astronomical beginners practical training, numerical methods of astronomy, Analysis for Physicists I and II, Astrophysics I, linear algebra for physicists, Astronomical Instruments I, history of science / theory of science / philosophy and practical training in an observatory. Alternatively Astrophysics II or Astronomical Instruments II can be chosen as a specialisation. Moreover elective modules from biology, chemistry, earth sciences, mathematics or physics can be studied. For the bachelor degree in Astronomy two bachelor theses are required. These are two be written in the framework of two bachelor seminars.
