Description

Medical Engineering deals with the application of engineering principles in the field of medicine. The discipline combines knowledge in technology and basic scientific research with medical expertise and experience of doctors, nurses and patients to improve the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, the care and rehabilitation of patients as well as health care and quality of life. Students have to complete the following compulsory subjects: - Mathematics - Natural sciences basics and materials - Information technology - Medical basics - Mechanics and construction - General medical technology - Problem-oriented medical technology - Modelling and simulation - Gender, ethics and law Students have to complete courses amounting to a total of 25 ECTS credits in the electives listed below. They have to choose a main elective subject from the range of electives, in which they have to select courses amounting to at least 15 ECTS credits. The remaining 10 ECTS they have to choose from the same or other electives. - Medical electronics and microsystems technology - Design of medical devices and systems - Medical information and signal processing - Biomechanics and robotics - Biomedical materials and nanotechnology Moreover, students have to write a bachelor’s thesis and pass a bachelor’s examination.
