Description

In Austria the field of forestry includes knowledge and professional competence regarding all functions of a forest. This includes both economic use and protective functions (conservation of species, water protection, soil protection, climate) and the welfare and recreational function. The aim is the best possible protection of the natural resources. The first few modules which students have to study contain general compulsory courses such as “Research Methodology“, “Ethical Approach to Forestry” and “Academic English in Forest Science“. One module requires a stay at a forestry institution, another one a field study. These mainly serve to give students an insight into practical application of the knowledge gained and to illustrate the different approaches in the different European countries. The final part of the degree programme requires a master’s thesis, which should be based on a field study. This thesis should eventually be published in a scientific magazine. A study period abroad is compulsory.
