Description

Physics is a natural sciences and technology discipline based on mathematical basics. It deals with the theoretical principles of matter and energy and endeavours to prove them by means of computer-aided experiments. The master’s programme in physics includes the compulsory modules quantum physics, ion physics / plasma physics / applied physics as well as astrophysics and particle physics. As regards the elective modules students can choose between e.g. laser physics, theoretical and experimental quantum physics, particle traps and laser cooling, mathematical methods of physics 3, relativity theory, theoretical quantum optics and quantum information and theory of condensed matter. Students also have to study an elective module in which they will enhance their knowledge in mathematics and computer sciences and acquire more specialised knowledge in one or more sub-disciplines of physics. The master's thesis consists of a research paper with a work group in one of the above-mentioned sub-disciplines.
