Description

Chemical and Process Engineering is a sector of production engineering which can be seen as a hybrid discipline of chemical engineering and process engineering. The title refers to the engineering science of transformation of substances where a new product results from chemical or physical transformation of a raw material. Although there are a great number of different processes and products the number of basic operations – such as distilling, shredding, etc. – is rather small. The first stage of the degree programme serves as an orientation year and imparts basic knowledge in mathematics, mechanical engineering, chemistry and process engineering. It also serves to acquire general soft skills (communication and presentation skills, teamwork). In the later phase of the degree course subject-specific areas of process engineering are explored in more depth. Moreover, the focus is on constructive subjects (apparatus engineering, programming) and mechanical engineering (fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics). In a specific course entitled “Experimental Process Engineering” students have to write a bachelor’s thesis.
